Season opening in Oberlech

Finally! The ski lifts opened for locals on 26 December. We are, of course, sad that we are as yet unable to share the slopes with you and that is why we want to tell you how the first week went.

It was absolutely fabulous. The snow was wonderful, it was cold, with temperature remaining a long way below zero. The very first day was a mixture of snow, cloud and sun. It was magnificent. Since the temperature was so low, the snow cannons also helped.

Just before the lifts set off, it was decided that we had to wear FFP2 masks in and around the ski lifts. We got used to this very quickly. Fortunately everyone obeyed the rules and respected the regulations, which were introduced. There was absolutely no crowding at the lifts. The slopes are completely empty and even at the start of the season were very quiet.

A few restaurants in Lech and Oberlech are also offering takeaways, so that we were able to enjoy a drink or a snack. It is a long time since we have seen the slopes so empty. In this respect it is great to have the ski regions almost to ourselves for the start of the season. But we would prefer to be skiing on the slopes with you! Not all the lifts are open, but more than enough to be able to enjoy a lovely afternoon on the slopes. At the moment Rotschrofen is one of our favourite slopes; it is a relatively long slope and gets a lot of sun in the morning.

The last few days have been very sunny with about 8 hours of sunshine each day and this week some 60 cm of snow is expected. Perfect for powder days.

We are looking forward to being able to ski with you again. Take a look at our earlier blog contributions , in which our precautionary measures for the winter season are summarised.
